slender stems,
slim shelter of lines,
a filter
making sense
of night’s boundless horizon
beyond twilight sky

A shadorma response to tonight’s dVerse challenge: “Express an idea, emotion or mood symbolically without saying anything directly”
I really, really enjoyed this. I did not see the symbolism, but no matter because it spoke to me silently — and that is great. And your poem was plain and understandable yet speaking at deeper levels. I read it twice, it was so inviting. Thanks.

I think, as I read it, the lines speak to some definition in an ambiguous space. There is a certain freedom in that when we know where we stand. On the other hand, lines can be restrictive, like a prison.

Yes lines in all senses can be both liberating in certain ways and also limiting. Thanks again Victoria for an interesting challenge.

Lovely combination, Janice. The first three lines sing out and grab me to pay attention to the last three!

Excellent on many fronts, Janice. The line structure is great, each line able to stand on its own. You draw the reader/viewer right into the picture, and your words send the mind to thoughts of what lies beyond the horizon.

The stems do seem like a filter of a boundless horizon.

The photo is of a small stand of grasses on a hill behind my house…I do enjoy looking up and through them…

Your words are beautiful and gentle and I have read them several times and they make me sigh with pleasure. They fit your photo perfectly.
Sometimes we need that filter to make sense of the expanse of our own horizons.

How a barrier can make us see more clearly what lies beyond. It’s a beautiful image, Janice.

Just as the image it tells me a bit of that border between us and the horizon. Maybe a border between life and death,

I read this several times myself. I felt the lines though a barrier, is also an invitation to reach beyond. I also love tge photo. Together they left me with a good feeling.

Thank you…lines, words, form, veils, layers and so on do invite and transport as well as limit. Your thoughts and those of others have helped me to feel this more.
