This is the second year that I’ve seen these creatures and it was once again a surprise. One moment I think I am seeing a yellow banded butterfly and the next moment I see a grasshopper/locust. For more information and images, check this writeup about the Carolina Grasshopper (aka Carolina Locust).

Wow–I’ve never heard of these insects, but there seem to be several insects that mimic other creatures.
