Yesterday I saw a brown grasshopper that first looked like a moth in flight—a Carolina Grasshopper, I discovered afterward. In closeup photographs it is possible to detect the grasshopper body in flight…in real life it looks more like a moth or butterfly until it lands and the wings fold, revealing a plain grasshopper.

    1. Yes, it is quite interesting. I couldn’t believe it at first when the moth appeared to be a brown grasshopper when it landed…I had to trace the flight of another one to make sure I wasn’t mistaken…they have a special flying cape which folds in when they are no longer in flight.
