midsummer
the sizzle of
water on earth
.
.
Midsummer is the theme of this week’s Haikai Challenge. Where I live, in Ontario, the approaching summer solstice (June 21) is the first official day of summer. In some traditions the solstice is considered a time of ‘midsummer’ celebrations. Under ‘midsummer’ Wikipedia mentions many traditions worldwide.
It has started to feel like summer here. Though I haven’t turned the air conditioning on and we still enjoy fresh air through open windows, the earth is beginning to sizzle. I love the soft sizzle sound when watering the garden on hot summer days.

What a lovely haibun. It warmed me up on this very cold Australian winter’s day.

Just yesterday after a mid day rain I could see the mist of hot air rising from my patio roof!
Definitely a different smell than spring pretrichor. 🙂
