‘Earth is short’

I reason, Earth is short…’

~ Emily Dickinson

:

Life feels long but is quite short

We are of air,

of water, molecules,

eternity fore and aft,

knowing little

like butterflies morphed from tiny eggs

into a biosphere we call ‘Earth’

If only it were enough

to sip nectars,

to love

to fly

  1. I love the way you’ve captured life in forty-four words, Janice! And it’s so true, ‘Life feels long but is quite short’ and If only it were enough / to sip nectars, / to love / to fly’ – echoes of Ariel from The Tempest in those lines!

  2. The darker /bright colors are the male Monarchs, while the females colors are more muted – Butterfly wise.
The ‘cats’ or larva – the long dark black stripe down the back of the ‘cat’ is its heart…
No cocoons here …yet. But I also learned that the 5th instar caterpillar doesn’t have to be big either.
I think I have a small one trying to make a J… but, well for a number of reasons… Caterpillars can fail. 😦

    1. I’ll have to watch for the differently shaded monarchs. Seriously the caterpillar has a heart along its back? And yes that’s sad if a caterpillar that has survived all of the other dangers of its existence can’t weave a pupa.

      1. Mites, other diseases… Life is and isn’t. Most of which for another we cannot control.
But we can be happy when even in the dullest corner we find beauty for just existing as it is supposed to. I find animal and insect camouflage fascinating. 🙂
