as noted, it’s a great quote – and the images? equally intriguing … I’m glad you posted the second one, the close-up of the broken lily stem … perhaps a bird alighted and it snapped? the mind is left to wonder … or a white -tailed deer, although they would have eaten, unless disturbed …
but what I mean to note is this: in the first image, the placement of the vase, the angle of the broken lilies – it looks like a Pierrot figurine (at least to my eyes) which made me absolutely do an additional double-take!
interesting reflection and curious wonder in this “summer’s retreat” reflection 🙂

Thank you Pat…you certainly absorbed the scenario. At first I assumed it was a chomp…but why bite off and not eat? I like your bird idea. A day later I found a sunflower stem which was snapped off in the wind and then I thought maybe that’s what happened to the lily… the small mysteries that intrigue 😉

Enjoyed your post. Love the second picture of the lilies in a vase set outdoors. Last week had one glad and one hollyhock snap off.

Tigers are gone…but the day lilies are blooming in the neighborhood. Though I have none… yet.
