Covert cycles
span generations.
We see moonrise sunset
days fade into nights
infants grow to men.
But what of a reprise
that would cage children
women and men
brand them as subhuman
where barbed lines under desert skies
cut ‘them’ from ‘us’
excising embrace?

Yes.
One that must be subverted.

Yes, those covert cycles do span span generations, Janice. I like the way you have woven a glimmer of hope into your Quadrille with the lines: .
‘We see moonrise sunset
days fade into nights’
only to negate them with the horrors of
‘…barbed lines under desert skies
cut ‘them’ from ‘us’
excising embrace’.
What I can’t understand is that there is good in the world but it can’t outweigh the bad.

The yin and yang are nicely woven in this tapestry, sunrise, sunsets, and barbed lines

‘Excising embrace’ is a powerful way to state this latest bit of history.

Many of us seem to be thinking about this.
Well done–beautiful language and such an awful thing–excising embrace.

Thank you, Merril…it is all awful…the reality of immigration detainees probably has been under reported (in Canada too) …but the image of children in cages was/is staggering.

Succinct and powerful! Chilling title. Like that you ended with a question for each reader to answer.
