Fusion haiku with Sōgi

the lake’s clear waters

silence as fresh as spring sky

first speed boat rumbles

My haiku is inspired by contemplation of these two haiku by classical poet, Sōgi (1421-1502):

ah, for coolness,

it rivals the water’s depth –

this autumn sky

abandoned house

the garden taken over –

butterfly home

  1. I lived near a lake growing up and one of my early memories is the sound of a boat motor, early in the morning, in the otherwise silent early sunshine – I always envisioned it as a streak across a plain surface. This poem brought it back to me.
