The flute weeps

dancing

flame embraces wick

wax melts to vapour

~

distant owl calls

nearby, high voices chatter

the match has been struck!

Sometimes poems will come while listening to music. This time I wrote after reading a poem by Rumi…the first lines are: ‘The flute weeps, to the pacing drum’. For the full text of Rumi’s poem please visit Carpe Diem Haiku Kai.

  1. I have noticed that when there is a candle lit (or I have the fire in the hearth) and music is going that I can easily imagine the flames keeping time… or maybe I am just mesmerized twice over by flame and music?

The flute has a unique voice. Like spring rains.
