recipe for coming out of winter hibernation

Drink hot soup tomato red
this February night.
Burn a candle flame.
Winter blood still
bathes chilled joints.
Newborn microbes
dance unseen.
Wear wool to hug the skin,
Breathe to clear dry lungs.
We are defrosting,
departing from winter hibernation.
Spring barely has begun.

  1. we’re in for the wild ride here in our great white north – along the lakes and in the hills – winter still has a strong hold, but we can at least enjoy a milder stretch – loved the particulars of this – starting with the hot soup tomato red –
this poem has the feeling of stacking kindling – each line placed to stave off the cold!

      1. yes, some days, the damp is too much – but at least we’re slowly walking towards spring – I’ll skip on the wood stove though, stacked/built enough fires these past few years. LOL – cheers!

  2. Yours is the first recipe poem I’ve seen in a while, Janice. These lines are so effective:
    ‘Winter blood still
    bathes chilled joints’
    and
    ‘We are defrosting,
    departing from winter hibernation’.
