Yogini reaches
to infinite realms
far above and deep below
as a tree
standing half lotus
Restless dogs sigh
and settle entranced
by soft pencil
strokes that shade
each chakra
drawing sound out
as thread from a skein
weaving a moment of
silent peace

Lately I’ve started coloring as a way of relaxing. The photo is of my first coloring project shown to provide the context for this Monday quadrille, written using the word ‘sound’ for dVerse Poets Pub.
Love the combination of picture and quadrille.

You started coloring. Your yogini is very good. It looks freehand. The poem and the picture remind me of a tree planted in the ground, with roots going down and branches heading skyward. Thanks

Thanks Walter…I believe the yoga pose shown is called ‘tree pose’ so you have observed its essence.

Lovely, Janice. You definitely wove a moment of silent peace with your words. Interesting artistic pursuit you have found. My oldest daughter got me “A Coloring Book of Adventure” by Millie Marotta for Christmas. ❤

Thank you Olga…colouring seems to fine tune me…the book I am ‘doing’ now is called ‘Nirvana’… my only wish is that the outlines weren’t so tight … next to impossible to not go over the lines unless you use extra fine markers and I’m using what I have…pencils. Lots of fun anyway 🙂

Yes, I find choosing one’s own color patterns can be fun.

So much to say about this deeply inspired poem and the image is so stunning. I like to color, too. It is quite centering.

I liked the silence peace while each chakra draws out sound.

Beautifully done Janice, both the image and the poem. Every colour has its own sound and resonates with a particular chakra 💜

My voice teacher taught me about the sounds of the chakras and it opened up a whole new way of singing for me. This poem of yours too is about freedom.

Freedom, yes…in yoga, in singing…sounds like you have/had a wonderful voice coach.

Love this take on the prompt. Serenity comes to mind. Especially like these words:
“soft pencil
strokes that shade
each chakra”
Yes, adult coloring books seem to abound in the book stores now 🙂

Thank you Lillian. Adult colouring books had been around for a while and then suddenly they exploded in popularity and variety.

I’m thinking of trying this — although my knitting takes up a lot of my time 🙂

Knitting looks like a relaxing activity….unfortunately I don’t have a natural aptitude for it — at least I didn’t as a child…

Loved both the picture and the poem. Good to know about your new skill 🙂 Enjoy !

Thank you…well the colouring is more an activity than a skill but my poem might not have made sense if I didn’t show it…I find colouring every now and then is relaxing.

Love your topic and your beautifully colored yogini. I was a yogini once long ago…should have kept up that practice! Someone also gave me a coloring book and pencils for Christmas; you’ve inspired me to go find them and do some relaxing coloring. 🙂

That’s great 🙂 Coloring has crept into my life on and off over the years…during periods of illness it was very soothing. Now I am feeling closer to getting back into meditation but not quite ready. Colouring feels like a step in that direction.
