nostalgia…
memories mound
and stories slide,
hurts evolve and resolve
molded by life’s minute corrections.
Whole worlds dissolve
until familiar echos pan
a hidden labyrinth
at rest.
Auras waken—
they waltz your bones and
whisper ‘there was good then
and there is good now.’

A poem of exactly 44 words, a quadrille, for dVerse Poets Pub Monday quadrille prompt: ‘echo’.
Beautiful and profound. I especially like the line “hurts evolve and resolve”.

I love the final whisper of ‘‘there was good then and there is good now.’ xxx

Thank you 🙂 I’d rather feel the goodness now than be wistful about the past.

I love the shape of this Quadrille, Janice – like an echo cardiogram. I also love the lines:
‘hurts evolve and resolve’
and
‘they waltz your bones and
whisper ‘there was good then
and there is good now.’’

Thank you Kim. I was conscious of short and long lines but hadn’t thought of an echo cardiogram…what a great observation 🙂

We must remember “there was good then, here is good now”. Sometimes, in the current political climate, that’s hard to do!

That’s true Beverly….and I would not be wanting to gloss over the issues of today for sure. In writing this poem I was in a more personal realm of memory, subtle echos of past positive feelings/states of mind that could be thought of as gone but can also be conjured and felt in the present.

Isn’t this beautiful! I admire how you describe nostalgia…this is especially meaningful: “Whole worlds dissolve/until/familiar echoes pan/a hidden labyrinth/at rest.” And love your last lines…so very true.

Thank you so much. I enjoyed your quadrille about an artist’s ethereal colours picking up shadows and echos (I wrote a comment which disappeared so I gave up at that point but I did want to say something )

Yes, Janice. Good has a way of returning time and again. Another type of echo! Well done.

So good to be able to recognize the good that was and, above all, the good that is now.

Wow!! 😀😀 This is a superb poem, Janice. Soft, evocative, all-encompassing. There are wonderful lyrical turns here, such as:
‘Auras waken—
they waltz your bones…’
I’ve never heard of quadrille before – you’ve written a great one here and it feels so much more than 44 words long!

Thank you Annika. It’s amazing the variety of thoughts and poetic styles that emerge with 44 words and a prompt word being the only parameter (you’ll see what I mean if you check out some of the other quadrilles linked on the dVerse post)
