Squeezed for time, I chose a “Skinny” to join in with dVerse Poets Pub Tuesday Poetics. Mish invites us to write a poem from the point of view of nature. I have seen many formations of birds in the sky lately. Temperatures are still chilly and splotches of snow linger, but the birds are making themselves seen and heard these days. Thank you to Efraimstochter who donated this bird photo to the public domain.

I like the “magnetic sun”. There is a magnetosphere around the Earth. I am not sure if that is what you are referring to.

I am not exactly sure myself 🙂 My general notion is that magnetic fields and the sun guide them.

Addition to my previous reply:
and as well the growing presence of the sun pulls them back North like a magnet.

I hear we are also influenced by the magnetosphere, but I don’t know the details. That may help them find their way. I will have to look into this topic.

Thank you Grace. Around here flocks of birds are the most prominent sign of spring so far…and lately, a robin here and there.

I like the repetition of “summoned”, as if keeping them all in line, flapping their wings to the beat of your poem. 🙂

Thank you Mish. Repetition of lines 2,6, and 10 are an attractive feature of the Skinny form. I find it fascinating how bird flocks maintain lines and other shapes.

In his book of essays, “Old Songs in a New Cafe”, Robert James Waller writes in voice for the leader of a formation of Canadian geese making their way south when his “wing man” is shot. It is touching and beautifully written. You might enjoy it, as I enjoyed your “skinny form”!
