Everything I love about haiku–deft strokes to paint the natural world; how one image blossoms into another, and becomes personal. So comforting to have that heartbeat next to you in a storm!
Thunder brings Charlie back in memory especially late at night.
After a storm almost lifted our holiday house off the ground one Spring Charlie always became stressed and would climb up on the bed and settle in with her head on my pillow when storms happened at night. Your haiku is perfect for that memory.
Lovely, Janice–calm in the storm. (Unless the thunder was snoring.) 🙂

Thanks Merrill…all was calm…no snoring that morning (actually I believe I may be the snorer but rarely…or so I like to think :))

Nice parallel of the heart nearby with the distant thunder.

This was an interesting one. It started with a specific experience but even as the writer I can read other nuances into it…
