Serenade

Let’s waltz and spin

here in love’s embrace—

forevermore.

My songs quietly implore you,

through the night;

Down in the quiet wood,

darling, come to me!……

∼Ludwig Rellstab, translation excerpt

Carpe Diem’s December theme is ‘Let the music inspire you’. This haiku responds to Carpe Diem #1084: Serenade (Schubert). Franz Schubert, Austrian composer (1797-1828), composed Serenade (Ständchen) in 1828.  It was published after his death, in a collection of songs called Schwanengegang.  Seven songs, including this one, were set to poems written by German poet, Ludwig Rellstab (1799-1860).
