Illusions

Clouds burst in my eye—

blinding rain

blurs light beams

chase and call,

from behind and

far ahead.

Moonlight wavers

between dark clouds

catching reflectors

that faintly mark

my plunge into darkness,

eyes peering through

windscreen fog.

Hands on wheel

grip illusions of control.

  1. Oh my goodness, Janice, this is so like me driving in the dark! I’m not good at it and I panic when other cars come towards me. Living in the country, you kind of get used to the darkness and the quiet, don’t you? I particularly liked the way you wove in the image of the moon – a gentle respite from the lights of the traffic:
    ‘Moonlight wavers
    between dark clouds
    catching reflectors
    that faintly mark
    my plunge into darkness,’
    You’ve really conveyed the sensations:
    ‘Hands on wheel
    grip illusions of control.’
    I got panicky reading it!

    1. Hovering in a few thoughts about life I was channeling images from highway driving. I am not a fan of night driving especially in the rain and it’s interesting I induced panic as that is exactly what I feel at times when vision is poor….and in life in general, anxiety seeps in.

  2. Scary on the plunging into darkness ~ This speaks to me deeply of losing control yet we have the choice of putting away those clouds in our eyes ~ Thanks for joining us at D’verse ~
