Wooden lanterns

In response to Jane Dougherty Poetry Challenge #19: ‘Lantern/Lanturne’:

image

Spruce
Couple
intertwined.
Ragged bonsai
pair.

Spruce
Long roots
penetrate,
wend through clay and
rock.

Dusk
paints sky
Sylvan dark
pine silhouettes
stretch.

Branch
shivers,
brittle, cold.
Berries wait for
spring.

Lantern poetry is an interesting form, consisting of only eleven syllables: 1-2-3-4-1, less than a standard haiku (5-7-5), but the same number as a 3-5-3 haiku. For more information about this form, please visit the challenge link on the first line of this post.

    1. Thank you 🙂 I wonder about those two trees at the front of our yard–were they there naturally and the land cleared around them– or were they placed there as a decorative touch. This type of spruce surrounds our house and grows across the road.
