Abandoned Farmhouse Photos and Ted Kooser Poem–Hugh’s Photo Challenge #4: Isolated

This week, Hugh of  Hugh’s Views & News invited us to post photos that show ‘something that looks isolated and all on own its own’. I thought of a boarded farmhouse that I often pass on the way to town.  I took two photos, one from behind a  tree, and the other with a clearer view. I think the slightly concealed view adds to the feeling of loneliness and isolation.  What do you think?  I found a poem called ‘Abandoned Farmhouse‘ which I quote and link after the photos.

Something went wrong, says the empty house
in the weed-choked yard. Stones in the fields
say he was not a farmer; the still-sealed jars
in the cellar say she left in a nervous haste.

  1. Hi Janice, I thought I better let you know that the link to this post in the email I got from WordPress does not seem to work. When I clicked the link a new window opened and I got a message saying “Oops! That page can’t be found.” In the same window, further down the page, there are links to your last 5 posts so I was able to access the post by clicking the link there. However, some of your readers may well just close the window after seeing the message.

Your photo for the challenge is excellent and it would be a shame if your readers missed them because of the faulty link.

I’ve pasted the link to the page I was shown when clicking on the link in the WordPress email. I hope it works so you can see what I saw.

    1. Thanks Hugh for the heads up on this. I am trying to solve it.. Not sure if I can. I think it stems from my first pre-schedule attempt thanks to Nablopomo and having to be out of town today..the ping on your site isn’t working either..I ‘ll paste a link nearby if all else fails. Thanks again 😊
