Calla Lily Threshold

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Door.”

Welcome to the entrance of my ‘humble abode’. I call it a ‘calla lily threshold’ as the flower design in the door glass caused a bit of controversy when we moved in. A friend of ours was convinced that calla lilies are symbols of death and that the previous owners must have belonged to a secret society (to be left unnamed). Although I doubted his story wholeheartedly, I did look up the symbolism connected to white calla lilies and found that they are symbols of beauty, purity, and death. That’s why they are often seen at weddings and funerals. Anyway, the door glass design is not uncommon and for me they offer a touch of beauty. My favourite photo is the one taken from inside the house, highlighting the flower and the great outdoors a few steps away on the other side of the door.

  1. Bravo! The floral pattern does offer an aesthetic elegance and grace to the door. I can readily appreciate the fact that you enjoy the visually pleasing beauty of the door. Thank you for sharing.
